Community Choice Aggregation (a.k.a. CCA*) is a game-changing local energy model that is accelerating our country’s transition to a clean energy future. CCA is a shared-service model with investor-owned utilities that enables villages, cities and counties to aggregate their electric load for the purpose of lowering electric rates, offering ratepayers a choice, and lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
LEAN Energy US is the nation's premier hub for information, data, and education on Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) activities nationwide. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, LEAN Energy US provides critical resources and expert guidance to a diverse network of local, state, and federal governments, commercial and nonprofit organizations, advocacy groups, and individuals seeking to launch or expand CCA programs in their communities and states.
*The term “Community Choice Aggregation” is commonly used across the US, however, some states may refer to this model by "Community Choice Electricity", "Community Choice Energy", "Community Energy Aggregation", "Local Choice Energy", "Government Energy Aggregation", etc.
According to a recent study by NREL, CCA communities were the fifth largest procurement structure for U.S. voluntary green power in 2023 and represented approximately 60% of all green power customers.
